S-Town Episode 2: Connections

What connections have you been making in episode 2?

I am noticing some connections to depression and withdrawal. John really tries to distract himself and become involved in betterment of society because the world around him is so depressing. I feel like episode 2 was intentional to make it known that John was loved in his town despite how different he was from everyone else! In his passing he was still cared for even though he could never quite figure out that peace while he was living.
